ood morning!
We have arrived in La Ceiba after an eventful trip here. We try (at least I do :)) to stop for breakfast and a bathroom break at a
Wendy's in Tela. It's roughly 2.75 hours from Omoa to there, it's a good place to stop. (and their breakfast baconator is delicious!)
This morning, we encountered a mission group at Wendy's from the states. They are from South Carolina and were here to start another church (they'd already started one several years ago)! They go door to door evangelizing and spreading the word of God! They have a local pastor that they are helping. A fun group! And all with southern accents!
Beto took Tammy, Sindy and Ashley to Walmart. It's been a while since we've been to La Ceiba, and they need cleaning supplies and
food to get started this week. I'm quoting materials and catching up with my paperwork. Maybe I can sneak a nap and catch up on
my sleep too ! Probably not... lol. I got our bus rental spreadsheet done and as a result, we have our first rental customer! Brenda is
wanting to rent the bus for two days in January! A blessing for both of us!
Oh my, my day just got busier, if that's possible! I received a message from a pastor friend, whose mother-in-law is building a
house and he sent me a video of part of the footings... hopefully they got the guy stopped so there won't be so much to tear out! With that said, I may now feel obligated to help, and from a mission perspective, I want to help! So now, pray, pray, pray!! Where do I
find the time and the money?? Proverbs 16:9 man makes plans; God guides his steps.... always, we just have to let Him! If anyone
is inclined to help support Maria and her house, please contact us!
We are allowed to advertise on the facebook page, Honduras Expats on the first of the month. We usually get a response or two.
This month we received an inquiry about building a house for a missionary couple and a request for information on renting the bus! It
is all about relationships and who you know! We are reading a book, recommended by our brother Darwyn, Foreign to Familiar. It
is about cultural differences, even the difference between cold and warm climate cultures! Very interesting and it explains a lot! One of
the things is about how the relationship is extremely important, and that takes time and trust! It's kind of like our relationship with Jesus, it
is extremely important! And the book to read, is the Bible! Amen!
Last night (Tuesday night) we went to El Faro (La Ceiba) for church. Even though we don't understand the language and reading the translator app doesn't get everything right, we understand the theme of what is going on. The part of the service that doesn't need any translation is the love and the genuine way they worship! Singing loud, on their knees in prayer, raising their hands to the heavens...it's easy to fall in love with the way Latin Americans worship!
Today the crew washed walls and painted, replaced broken floor tile, laid block and installed electrical boxes and "conduit" in the
new block walls! Getting it done!
Thursday was more of the same. A good crew working hard! And Dany set a personal record in how many block he laid today, 102! There were a lot of corners and short walls too! Good job Dany!
Friday morning, we're on the way back to Omoa. We stopped in El Carmen to look at a possible job. Luis our electrician friend and brother Darwyn had recommended us to put in the drywall ceilings in a house that is being built. The owner is in USA, I need to talk to him to be sure exactly what he wants done and then he wants a quote by next week. I'm not sure when he wants/needs the project done
but most likely it will be in the next month or so when we'll be back in Ohio. That may be a challenge. There also happened
to be a strike going on at the time we went to look at this project, they block the roads with buses to stop "commerce". It appears to be
the only way they can get the governments' attention. As a result, we had to take the long way around to get to the jobsite. Just another
day.
Usually when we're gone all week like this, there's not much to eat in the house, so it's off to La Plaza tonight! Not a sacrifice at
all! Good food, good company!
Today is Saturday, we're catching up on rest and I'm working on the weekly update. Tammy is cooking lunch at the moment. This
afternoon we're going to meet with Julissa (from the girls home and is now a dentist with Lifeline at their clinic in Ocotillo) and help
her purchase a round-trip plane ticket to USA! She's been able to get her visa and is coming for a visit. She wants (and needs to) fly
with us when we go back in October. As a first-time flyer, I want her to come with us too! The journey through the airports and customs
would be very stressful! Julissa is helping Sindy at the moment at Sindy's church in Choloma. This will make it easier for us, it's only
50 minutes, right down the main road! This needs to happens today as there is only a couple tickets left on the same flight as ours!
Once we got online with Julissa, it turns out she got the last ticket for our flight!! God's timing again! At least we can travel together and
teach her how to navigate through customs and one of the busiest airports in Atlanta. It will be fun to help her in her first ever flight and
trip to USA! Jeff and Patti will have a full itinerary for her, I'm sure! Pray for her to have peace in this new endeavor!
We are thankful for all of you, praying for you to have a blessed week! John and Tammy
